In 2016 I met a beautiful woman who was battling stage 4 breast cancer. I was her home health nurse for 8 months and was also with her the night she passed away. We had forged an amazing friendship over that time together, with many conversations about end-of-life before she passed. She spoke candidly about how she wanted to experience the dying process and I listened.
During one of our chats, she asked me to find and release blue butterflies after she passed away. I went in search for them but, much to my dismay, I was unable to find any before I was called back to the house to be with her in her final hours.
t was a beautiful and peaceful passing, just as she had planned. While I sat next to the bed, alone, I held her hand and asked for a sign that she had made it home................
