Understanding Potential User Needs

A Survey Analysis of the Markets for Individual Building Renovation Roadmaps in Bulgaria, Poland and Portugal

This iBRoad report highlights key findings from a set of qualitative interviews and a 1500+ participants survey study. The iBRoad  concept will be tested in Bulgaria, Poland and Portugal. In preparation of the testing, this analysis provides user-profiles and gathers knowledge of their needs, preferences, and trust. Insights gathered will improve the understanding of the end-users and enable a more effective design of the Individual Building Renovation Roadmaps, tailored to the specific markets.

The Concept of the Individual Building Renovation Roadmap

An in-depth case study of four frontrunner projects

This report offers an overview of the process behind the creation of an Individual Building Renovation Roadmap and covers the key issues that need to be addressed to allow its development and implementation. Real-life examples based on four existing initiatives revolving around the concept of individual building renovation roadmaps and passports are used in this report to demonstrate how the different elements can be designed and implemented: Denmark (BetterHome), Flanders (Woningpas and EPC+), France ( Passeport Efficacité Énergétique) and Germany (Individueller Sanierungsfahrplan).

8 Country factsheets

Current use of Energy Performance Certificates in 8 EU countries and potential links to iBRoad

The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) introduced Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) with the aim to create more transparency about the energy performance of individual buildings. To date, the implementation of this instrument varies significantly across Europe in terms of scope, information, comparability and user-friendliness, limiting its acceptance by users as well as its market penetration.

The analysis of the status quo of  EPCs, energy audits and renovation activities in participating countries (Bulgaria, Belgium Flanders, Germany, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden) is of great significance to the iBRoad project.

iBRoad is a project funded by the Horizon 2020 European programme, aimed at exploring, designing, developing and demonstrating the concept of individual Building Renovation Roadmaps. With the innovative approach proposed, the project aims to become a real driver for deep renovation. Representing an evolution of the Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and energy audit systems, building renovation roadmaps will serve as a tool outlining a customised renovation plan with a long-term horizon for deep step-by-step renovation of individual buildings (iBRoad-Plan), combined with a repository of building-related information (logbook, iBRoad-Log).
